The Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Friday Night Drags summer racing series at Texas Motor Speedway has been canceled for the 2021 season.
The six-week, six-race amateur summer series was held consecutively from 2009 to 2019 before being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. Speedway officials plan to restart the program in 2022.
“Canceling the UTI Friday Night Drags program for a second year is the last thing we wanted to do but, despite restrictions in Texas being lifted, we believe it is still in the best interest of our competitors, fans and partners to do so for health and safety reasons,” said Eddie Gossage, President and General Manager of Texas Motor Speedway. “We appreciate everyone at UTI, Summit Racing Equipment, Snap-on, Texas Born Performance and In-N-Out Burger for their support and understanding and look forward to continuing our successful partnerships in 2022.”
The seven racing categories include the Bandit Division, Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Division, Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Modified Division, Snap-on Tools All-Wheel Drive Division, Super Car Division, Texas Born Performance Black Smoke Warrior Division, and the Summit Racing Equipment Outlaw Division.
Texas Motor Speedway opens its 2021 major event season May 1-2 with an NTT INDYCAR SERIES doubleheader. The Genesys 300 will air live May 1 on NBCSN beginning at 6 p.m. CT while the XPEL 375 will air live May 2 on NBCSN beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
